Mike is currently enjoying his second tour of duty in Oregon, having begun his first by moving to Portland in 1991 to begin his career after receiving his BA in Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley. While he enjoyed his 8 years of large firm experience in Portland, as well as his subsequent 2 years of small firm experience in California, it was his 5 years of self-employed residential design that finally convinced him that he really did want to be an Architect when he grew up.

In his 17 years in the profession Mike has worked on a wide variety of project types, from kitchens to wineries to airports. Licensed in California, Mike completed a Master's degree in Architecture at the University of Oregon in 2008. The experience of returning to school revitalized his design skills and renewed his love for the profession. The experience of moving to Eugene rekindled his love for Oregon.

I guess you could blame Lego's for Mike's choice of careers. An intense interest how materials fit together led to summer jobs in construction and ultimately to architecture, where Mike especially enjoys solving the detailing and construction of all types of buildings. Consequently, when Mike isn't at work figuring out how to build other people's buildings, he can usually be found getting his hands dirty at home, where there is always a project waiting…unless it's snowing, in which case you are more likely to find him up on the mountain teaching his daughter to ski.
